LOVE ALliance project
Grounded in the Principles of Equality, Dignity, and Justice
Under the Love Alliance Project, the Health Law and Policy Consortium (HLPC) has been actively advocating for the recognition and protection of the rights of key populations in Zimbabwe, including the LGBTIQ community, people living with HIV, people with disabilities, intersex individuals, and sex workers. The project is grounded in the principles of equality, dignity, and justice, seeking to dismantle structural barriers and discriminatory laws that hinder the full enjoyment of human rights.
Strategic Impact Litigation
HLPC has taken bold steps in pursuing strategic impact litigation aimed at securing the recognition of a third sex marker. This effort represents a landmark push for legal reforms that affirm the rights and identities of intersex individuals in Zimbabwe.
Capacity Building and Training
Recognising the power of community-led advocacy, HLPC has conducted a number of trainings targeting key populations on human rights. These sessions equipped community leaders with the knowledge and tools to engage policymakers, challenge stigma, and strengthen their own advocacy initiatives.
Advocacy and Law Reform
HLPC has been at the forefront of advocacy work on the decriminalisation of laws targeting people living with HIV and other key populations. This work challenges punitive legal frameworks that reinforce stigma and exclusion, while advancing policies that protect health rights and promote equality.
Documentary – Identity in Crisis
To amplify voices and humanise the struggles of intersex individuals, HLPC produced the documentary “Identity in Crisis.” The film highlights the lived realities and challenges faced by intersex persons in Zimbabwe and has become an influential advocacy tool for raising awareness, shifting public perceptions, and engaging stakeholders on the need for recognition and legal protection.
Through the Love Alliance Project, HLPC continues to build a stronger justice movement, amplify marginalised voices, and advance a future where all key populations in Zimbabwe can live with dignity, equality, and full recognition of their rights.
